Poul Kjaerholm

Danish designer Poul Kjærholm’s career began humbly, as a cabinetmaker’s apprentice in 1948. Later, he was admitted to the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. In the mid-1950’s he began working for entrepreneur Ejvind Kold Christiansen where, having tremendous artistic freedom, he produced several furniture ranges.
It was in this role that Kjærholm introduced his PKO minimalist plywood series. The PK58 Coffee Table consists of a circular table-top that is supported by four legs, arranged in the shape of a square. In 1958, the designer went on to achieve worldwide acclaim for contributions to the ‘Formes Scandinaves’ exhibition in Paris. Indeed, it was here that he won the legendary ‘Lunning Award’ for his PK22 Chair. Kjærholm won numerous design awards throughout the tenure of his career.
